Enipeas hiking

Guided Day hike on the foothills of Olympus!

A great day hiking in Enipeas gorge were you will have the opportunity to experience the unique natural beauty of the lower Olympus area. The dense vegitation and the hearing of the flowing water on the way calms you down and prepares you for this fantastic journey.

We will cross the Enipeas river several times through little wooden bridges and have the opportunity to refresh ourselves in the crystal clear ponds. Our path leads us just outside the historical St. Dionysus monastery and a unique chapel build in a cave and we will visit them both for a short tour and some rest.

The total hike is around 6-hours and covers a distance of 10km with elevation gain of 800m. The starting point is Litochoro village and finish is Prionia area where our van will wait to return us to Litochoro.

The opposite direction Prionia-Litochoro, with mostly downhill is also possible and if you would like shorter distance to suit your time and abilities.

Transporation from Thessaloniki and back can be arranged at extra cost.

Where is the meeting point and when?The default meeitng point is at the town center of Litochoro at 8am. This can be changed according to your needs. We offer also transportation from Thessaloniki upon request at extra cost.
What fitness level is required?This tour is rated at difficulty level of 3/5 and therefore a moderate fitness level is required being able to hike for up to 6 hours in a single day.
What equipment do we recommend?
  1. Daypack (up to 30L)
  2. Hiking boots or trail running shoes with rugged outsole will be fine.
  3. A good grade waterproof jacket for weather changes.
  4. A warm midlayer.
  5. Long trousers and also shorts if you prefer for the daytime hiking.
  6. Sun cream and hat

What is the best hiking season in Olympus foothills?Actually all year round, being not so high in altitude the winter weather only in extreme cases of heavy snowfall prevents the hike by making the terrain challenging.
What is the distance and elevation gain of the hike?10km with 700m elevation gain.
What about the technical difficulty of the route?The terrain isn't challenging and is suitable for beginners
